Romanian Traditional Music

Romanian traditional music is a rich and diverse dating back to the Roman Dacian period. In general, it is characterised by its Balkan-style rhythms and varies by region, as each has its own preferred instrumentation and multi-ethnic populations have necessarily had an impact on musical styles and traditions.

Folk music is the oldest form of Romanian musical creation, characterized by great vitality. Folk music of Romania is the defining source of the cultured musical creation. Conservation of Romanian folk music has been aided by a large and enduring audience, and by numerous performers who helped propagate and further develop the sound.
