Colinde are performed in all parts of Romania (including Moldova), with regional variations in terms of number of participants, exact timing of different melodies and lyrics.
The tradition is authentic in Romania, Moldova, and all territories inhabited by Romanians. Symbolically, it is correlated to women and to fertility as a means of life and continuity.
